Your Aunts Don’t Know You Exist

1992, my parents used a video as a tool so they could proof my existence to my aunts that lived outside of Peru because of the terrorism. That same year was the capture of the main terrorist leader of the Shining Path, Abimael Guzman, with other members of the terrorist group in an operativ called “Victoria” Every September 12th, on the anniversary of the capture, the footage of th following of the terrorist are shown in different Peruvian news media, they are reinforced in our mind.

In this space memory becomes one inalterable unit. That is how our memory is organized and built, there is no distinction between whats private and whats public.
